ÓS — THE JOURNAL

Ós — The Journal is an annual print publication that features the works of writers and artists from different origins, backgrounds, styles and languages who have some sort of connection to Iceland. The magazine publishes prose, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction, as well as artworks in any and many languages.

Ós Pressan published its first multilingual journal in October 2016 and is now working on its seventh issue. In these last years, we’ve published over 200 works by 125 authors, featuring 20 languages: Bulgarian, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, Flemish, French, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Kurdish, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Slovenian, Spanish and Turkish.

Submissions are now open!

Deadline: 19th April
OPEN CALL Ós — The Journal 2024

We invite submissions that delve into the theme of the UNSPOKEN. Whether confronting the taboo of death, navigating social stigmas, starting difficult conversations, deciphering non-verbal dialogues, or weaving through the nuances of multilingual communication, we seek pieces illuminating the unsaid aspects of our shared human experience. Issue N.5

Published in 2021, journal N.5 features 50 pieces from 34 authors and in 11 languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Indonesian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.

This milestone fifth edition of Ós — The Journal includes a dust jacket featuring the works from some Ós members.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the issue was launched online.

issue n.4

Published in 2020, journal N. 4 features 50 works from 36 authors and in 11 languages: English, Icelandic, German, Danish, Spanish, Polish, French, Slovenian, Portuguese, Greek, Latin.

Blended publishing allowed us to accept web content, spoken word pieces, and even more visual material.

Issue N.3

Published in 2018, journal N.3 features 45 works from 30 authors and in 5 languages: Dutch, English, Finnish, Icelandic and Spanish.

This edition marked a breakthrough in our publishing in that we blended both online and printed content into one publication.

Impressed by the visual material submitted for N.3 but limited by the printed journal, the editorial board decided to get creative. With the authors' and artists' full support, Ós Pressan created QR codes for visual material, printing those in the physical journal. Anyone with a QR code scanner could use it to access exclusive visual materials and translations that were too long to print in the physical journal.

This third edition was launched with a party and reading at Iðnó in Reykjavík.

iSSUE N.2

Published in 2017, journal N.2 features 41 works from 30 authors and in 7 languages: Dutch, English, German, Icelandic, Kurdish, Polish and Spanish.

It was launched at Grönduhalshús in downtown Reykjavík after a successful crowdfunding printing campaign run through the Károlina Fund platform, in which we raised more than 100.000 ISK thanks to our fabulously generous patrons and supporters.

Issue N.1

Published in 2016, journal N.1 features 30 works from 23 authors and in 6 languages: Dutch, English, Flemish, Icelandic, Japanese and Spanish.

The launch party and reading was held at Kaffislippur at the Hotel Marina.
